Unveiling the Chic Metropolis - A Central London Apartment's Contemporary Revival
Emma J Page, Living Etc Magazine
Nestled in central London, this 51sq m top-floor apartment underwent a remarkable transformation, courtesy of Space Shack's Omar Bhatti. Originally a gem specialist's studio, the space lacked charm and required a design overhaul. The owners sought an interior that reflected the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Hatton Garden. Omar's vision was to create a versatile space that catered to social gatherings and relaxation alike. While the layout couldn't be changed significantly, clever refinements made all the difference.

Prioritising structural improvements, Omar focused on optimising storage and removing obstacles. Multi-level storage units were introduced to break up the entrance hall, while exposed pipework was concealed within the walls. A bulky door between the hall and living room was eliminated, enhancing flow. The use of blue became an anchoring element, showcased in the kitchen cabinetry, a corner sofa, and hallway storage.

With a background in architecture and a penchant for warm urban aesthetics, Omar injected a cosmopolitan edge into the apartment's design. Inspired by innovative hotels, restaurants, and designer Kelly Wearstler, he sought to reflect the city's diversity within the space. Textured woods, eye-catching artwork, and tactile accessories were strategically incorporated. A laser-cut fluted oak media unit discreetly housed storage in the living room, complemented by a vertical wall panel in the hallway. In the bedroom, a lattice-cut wooden wall panel replaced the traditional headboard, adding a touch of intrigue. These textural layers aimed to bring the essence of the natural world indoors.

The couple's artwork collection, featuring portraits, prints, and maps, received a boost with a bold modern abstract piece sourced by Omar from Degree Art. It provided the media wall with a vibrant touch, elevating the overall ambiance.

After enduring four years of a functional yet uninspiring space, Chris and James are delighted with the outcome. Omar's efforts have prompted them to raise their entertaining game, as the apartment now shines with renewed brilliance. This central London home stands ready to captivate once more.
