HOW TO CREATE A GORGEOUS CHRISTMAS WREATH TO GREET YOUR GUESTS

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is on its way and as we enter December it’s time to put up our Christmas trees and decorations, ready for the jolly season with family and friends. What better way to greet your guests at the door than with a charming homemade Christmas wreath. This is the perfect way to get in the creative Christmas spirit and have some fun decorating your home.

GATHER YOUR MATERIALS

To create your Christmas wreath, you are going to need a base for the wreath, you can create this yourself using tree branches, wire or the easier option is to get a metal wreath ring for a more sturdy and secure fix. Additionally, you will need to gather foliage such as Christmas tree branches, holly leaves, moss, spruce, ivory, evergreen oak, or Buxus. Gather Christmas decorations to add to your wreath this may be ball balls, cinnamon sticks, dried out oranges, acorns, conkers and more! You will also need scissors and green string or wire to attach the foliage and décor pieces to your wreath.

BUILD YOUR FOLIAGE

Start by choosing what foliage you want to use as a base to wrap around your wreath ring, this can be spruce or moss as this works better being the fundamental part of the wreath. Use green string or wire to securely wrap the foliage around your wreath ring, it is important to try and use green wire or string as you want to hide it within the foliage. Ensure the foliage is tightly secure with double knots as the base must be secure to embed further foliage and decor pieces into the wreath. Remember to create a loop at the top centre of your wreath to hang on your door or wall.

EMBED FURTHER FOLIAGE

Gather your other pieces of foliage, choose which you feel works nicely together as you want to have contrasting pieces of foliage. Begin with the larger foliage pieces such as evergreen oak or Buxus, be careful not to place too much of the same foliage together. Ensure there is a contrasting balance throughout as you intertwine the foliage around the wreath. Once you have incorporated the larger foliage pieces add in the smaller elegant pieces such as ivory and holly. Allow the ivory to curve and flow around the wreath charmingly and place the holly equally across the wreath to have good symmetry and balance.

DECORATE WITH FINAL TOUCHES

This is the part that really completes the look of your wreath and allows you to add your own unique touch. Get creative with your decorative pieces, use ribbons and string to bundle cinnamon sticks together and create Christmassy red bows. Include fall features with conkers and acorns paired beautifully with some dried-out orange slices. These work wonderfully on a Christmas wreath, just cut some thin slices, put them in the oven to dry out and once done leave out to cool down. Alternatively, you can buy a pack that has already been dried out or are artificial. The oranges add a vibrant pop of colour and compliment the greenery exquisitely.
